Free The Night - ATL Introducing, BBC Radio Ulster

August 03, 2021

Northern Ireland's licensing laws have been a source of controversy for over 25 years. New legislation has passed in Stormont, updating some of the regulations surrounding closing times and trading over Easter. However, many figures in the entertainment industry have expressed concerns about the new amendments, claiming that the arts are still being undervalued. Is Northern Ireland progressing, or are we still stuck in the past? To find out, I spoke to DJ and producer Holly Lester of Free The Night, the SDLP's Matthew O'Toole and Minister for the Department of Communities, Deirdre Hargey. This package is available to stream on BBC Sounds from the 12 minute mark. Massive thanks to my contributors and the team at ATL Introducing for helping me investigate this issue!
